INTERPRETING SCRIPTURE Might we rightly interpret Scripture apart from the history of its origin? Almost everyone has heard the story of the six blind men and the elephant, but few know the moral of the story. Here it is:
So oft in
theologic wars, the disputants, I ween, The historical context from which a particular Scripture springs provides the skeleton upon which the living word thrives, and helps us to make a whole of the various parts that we would otherwise misrepresent and misapply. Having said that, here are a few historical resources that I’ve lately discovered that really help us understand what we’ve been reading from a historical perspective. Temple at the Center of Time: Newton’s Bible Codex Deciphered and the Year 2012 by David Flynn. Isaac Newton is known from his ‘discovery’ of gravity when the famous apple fell out of the tree upon his head. But did you know that most of Newton’s writings were Scripture commentaries, and that his genius was obsessed with the timetable set out in the Book of Daniel? And that many have attempted to crack Newton’s codes in order to predict the exact year to which Daniel refers in his end-time scheme. Well, Flynn has discovered the ‘key’ to Daniel through Newton’s commentaries, and has thus cracked the code. This book is not fiction / fantasy like the DaVinci Code, Newton’s figures are absolutely incredible; and now, in this later day, open to the student of prophecy. Flynn finds many amazing correspondences between the Scriptural (prophetic) numbering system and distances between the Holy of Holies and a bunch of cities – not only of the ancient world, but of the modern. There are just too many exact distance comparisons with Bible lore to be any kind of coincidence. And it may well be that Flynn has found the key to unlock all Bible prophecy. Temple was at the top of Amazon sales for many weeks, but can now be obtained for about half of the original price. I have a couple hours of radio interview with David Flynn on Radio Yahweh, but you might want to read the book first. (Also on this page is a series with Tom Horn on the subject of the Nephilim / Gibborim and the Alien Agenda.) Jerusalem and the temple mount are definitely at the center of time for the majority of people of faith. PBS will air Jerusalem: Center of the World Wednesday April 1st. Check listings for time and please let me know. The film is subtitled "The World's Most Contested Piece of Real Estate." Here’s a little of the promo: The film begins at Mount Moriah, where according to tradition, Elohim instructed Abraham to sacrifice his son, and which later became the site of the First and Second Temples. "Jerusalem" also explores the Dome of the Rock and the Western Wall, the remnant of the Second Temple, sacked by the Romans. Along with visits to landmarks, [the producer] includes large doses of history, drawing on biblical sources, medieval travelers, and contemporary reporters. The Canon: At the last study we were discussing the Canon of Scripture and mention was made of the 70-book canon and the more ancient 72-book canon. There were questions about how the books of the Scripture could come out to that number, so I slapped up a chart up for your information. Questions / comments are welcome. Finally, as for the elephant we started with, you may visit his ancestors and read / hear / download the ancient biblical story of The Jews verses 300 Drunken Elephants. Hope to see you on Erev. Questions? Just reply to this mail. Want to get off my list? It won’t hurt my feelings, just let me know. |
