you can't practice what you don't know . . . .
Shalom Hebraic Roots Mavens! There's no meeting Friday the 10th. We'll get together again on the 17th of February 2006, that's Sabbath, SHVAT 20, 5766, Hebraic year 6006, 7 PM.
New stuff on the website: several new
questions answered
The February 3rd meeting brought eight of us together. We sang a couple popular Jewish-style show tunes and had a marvelous moed of prayer. We handed out an outline of Eddie Chumney's first Hebraic Roots Yeshiva CD and a short rundown of recommended Hebraic versions of Scripture. These can be found on the site, www.yahpop.us. I gave a talk on the difficulty of making the transition from studying Hebraic roots to practicing what we've already learned. We had a little treat and were out the door in an hour an a half. I believe all were edified with the opportunity to get together on this subject. Here's a little bit of the talk I gave: I've been studying Hebraic roots with sincerity since 1993. It is only recently that I have been convicted to start practicing the truths I've learned from study - truths that have mostly never been discussed in many years of church involvement. Five scripture passages finally convinced me to start "changing my mind" (repenting my ways) and following what I'd learned as best as able at this time. Ten years is a long time to turn around. I know a lot, but am a baby in practice. Here is the first scriptures and what it means to me. The rest I'll send you if you reply with interest. Acts 15:21. "... For from early generations Moses has had in every city those who preach him, for he is read every sabbath ...." This is James speaking in judgment of Paul and Barnabbas' request for a judgment on what new converts were to do immediately. James and the Jerusalem Council gave Paul directives that four ordinances should be upheld immediately. Most Christians stop at that. But James already knows that the Gentile converts will be attending the synagogue every Sabbath and will be learning the teachings given to Moses - learning and practicing. NOT ALL AT ONCE - you can't practice what you don't know. But as you learn. I had completed a full Christian and pastoral education - over 8 years of institutional learning - and never been taught ANY of Moses. This passage was pointed out to me by Eddie Chumney a few years ago, and it changed my whole outlook. Now I know I can't do it all, but what I have learned, I can start to do. And I feel so good about it. You who attended, please accept my personal thanks. Pray for me, as I have been sick for the last few days with the mystery malady. For anyone else in our area, please pass this note along and the website address www.yahpop.org. Greet the brothers and sisters in the sacred name Yahweh. Jackson Snyder
