ARAMAIC | Daniel 7:1. IN THE first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream and visions of his head as he lay in his bed. |

1b.Then he wrote down the dream, and told the sum of the matter. 2. Daniel said, "I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of heaven were stirring up the great sea. |
4 winds an appropriate prelude to four beasts; 'winds were stirring seas' - seas are seen as multitudes of people |
16. I approached one of those who stood there and asked him the truth concerning all this. So he told me, and made known to me the interpretation of the things. |

3. And four great beasts came up out of the sea, different from one another. |
The following empires were all located primarily in the same place. |
17. 'These four great beasts are four kings who shall arise out of the earth. |

4. The first was like a lion and had eagles' wings. Then as I looked its wings were plucked off, and it was lifted up from the ground and made to stand upon two feet like a man; and the mind of a man was given to it. |

20. and concerning the ten horns that were on its head, 24. As for the ten horns, out of this kingdom ten kings shall arise, and another shall arise after them; he shall be different from the former ones, and shall put down three kings. |

8b. and behold, there came up among them another horn, a little one, before which three of the first horns were plucked up by the roots; and behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking great things. 11a. I looked then because of the sound of the great words which the horn was speaking. |

20B. and the other horn which came up and before which three of them fell, the horn which had eyes and a mouth that spoke great things, and which seemed greater than its fellows. 21. As I looked, this horn made war with the saints, and prevailed over them, 25. He shall speak words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High, and shall think to change the times and the law; and they shall be given into his hand for a time, two times, and half a time. 24b.and another shall arise after them; he shall be different from the former ones, and shall put down three kings. |

9. As I looked, thrones were placed and one that was ancient of days took his seat; his raiment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames, its wheels were burning fire. 10. A stream of fire issued and came forth from before him; a thousand thousands served him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him; the court sat in judgment, and the books were opened. |

26. But the court shall sit in judgment, and his dominion shall be taken away, to be consumed and destroyed to the end. |

11b. And as I looked, the beast was slain, and its body destroyed and given over to be burned with fire. 12. As for the rest of the beasts, their dominion was taken away, but their lives were prolonged for a season and a time. |

23. "Thus he said: 'As for the fourth beast, there shall be a fourth kingdom on earth, which shall be different from all the kingdoms, and it shall devour the whole earth, and trample it down, and break it to pieces. |

13. I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. |

14. And to him was given dominion and glory and kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed. |

27. And the kingdom and the dominion and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High; their kingdom shall be an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey them.' |

15. "As for me, Daniel, my spirit within me was anxious and the visions of my head alarmed me. |

28. "Here is the end of the matter. As for me, Daniel, my thoughts greatly alarmed me, and my color changed; but I kept the matter in my mind." |

HEBREW | Daniel 8:1. IN THE third year of the reign of King Belshazzar a vision appeared to me, Daniel, after that which appeared to me at the first. 2. And I saw in the vision; and when I saw, I was in Susa the capital, which is in the province of Elam; and I saw in the vision, and I was at the river Ulai. |
2 Mac 11: 6. When Maccabaeus and his men learned that Lysias was besieging the fortresses, they and the populace with them begged the Lord with lamentation and tears to send a good angel to save Israel. |
15. When I, Daniel, had seen the vision, I sought to understand it; and behold, there stood before me one having the appearance of a man. 16. And I heard a man's voice between the banks of the Ulai, and it called, "Gabriel, make this man understand the vision." 17. So he came near where I stood; and when he came, I was frightened and fell upon my face. But he said to me, "Understand, O son of man, that the vision is for the time of the end." 18. As he was speaking to me, I fell into a deep sleep with my face to the ground; but he touched me and set me on my feet. 19. He said, "Behold, I will make known to you what shall be at the latter end of the indignation; for it pertains to the appointed time of the end. |

3. I raised my eyes and saw, and behold, a ram standing on the bank of the river. It had two horns; and both horns were high, but one was higher than the other, and the higher one came up last. 4. I saw the ram charging westward and northward and southward; no beast could stand before him, and there was no one who could rescue from his power; he did as he pleased and magnified himself. |

5. As I was considering, behold, a he-goat came from the west across the face of the whole earth, without touching the ground; and the goat had a conspicuous horn between his eyes. |
1 Macc 1:1. Alexander of Macedon son of Philip had come from the land of Kittim and defeated Darius king of the Persians and Medes, whom he succeeded as ruler, as first of Hellas. |
21. And the he-goat is the king of Greece; and the great horn between his eyes is the first king. |

6. He came to the ram with the two horns, which I had seen standing on the bank of the river, and he ran at him in his mighty wrath. 7. I saw him come close to the ram, and he was enraged against him and struck the ram and broke his two horns; and the ram had no power to stand before him, but he cast him down to the ground and trampled upon him; and there was no one who could rescue the ram from his power. |

22. As for the horn that was broken, in place of which four others arose, four kingdoms shall arise from his nation, but not with his power. 23. And at the latter end of their rule, when the transgressors have reached their full measure, a king of bold countenance, one who understands riddles, shall arise. |

8. Then the he-goat magnified himself exceedingly; but when he was strong, the great horn was broken, and instead of it there came up four conspicuous horns toward the four winds of heaven. |

1 Macc 1:7. Alexander had reigned twelve years when he died. 8. Each of his officers established himself in his own region. 9. All assumed crowns after his death, they and their heirs after them for many years, bringing increasing evils on the world. |

9. Out of one of them came forth a little horn, which grew exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the glorious land. 10. It grew great, even to the host of heaven; and some of the host of the stars it cast down to the ground, and trampled upon them. |

24. His power shall be great, and he shall cause fearful destruction, and shall succeed in what he does, and destroy mighty men and the people of the saints. 25. By his cunning he shall make deceit prosper under his hand, and in his own mind he shall magnify himself. |

11. It magnified itself, even up to the Prince of the host; |

25b. Without warning he shall destroy many; and he shall even rise up against the Prince of princes; but, by no human hand, he shall be broken. |

11b.and the continual burnt offering was taken away from him, and the place of his sanctuary was overthrown. 12. And the host was given over to it together with the continual burnt offering through transgression; and truth was cast down to the ground, and the horn acted and prospered. |

13. Then I heard a holy one speaking; and another holy one said to the one that spoke, "For how long is the vision concerning the continual burnt offering, the transgression that makes desolate, and the giving over of the sanctuary and host to be trampled under foot?" |
|
14. And he said to him, "For two thousand and three hundred evenings and mornings; then the sanctuary shall be restored to its rightful state." |

26. The vision of the evenings and the mornings which has been told is true; but seal up the vision, for it pertains to many days hence." |
|
|
|
27. And I, Daniel, was overcome and lay sick for some days; then I rose and went about the king's business; but I was appalled by the vision and did not understand it. |

DANIEL 9 VISION |

|
The first 19 verses comprise the Tefilim of Teshuva for himself and all of Israel.
20. While I was speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before Yahweh Elohi for the holy hill of Elohi;

1 Macc 2:7. Matthias said, "Alas that I should have been born to witness the ruin of my people and the ruin of the Holy City, and to sit by while she is delivered over to her enemies, and the sanctuary into the hand of foreigners." 1 Macc 1: 13. and a number of the people eagerly approached the king, who authorised them to practise the gentiles' observances. 14. So they built a gymnasium in Jerusalem, such as the gentiles have,15. disguised their circumcision, and abandoned the holy covenant, submitting to gentile rule as willing slaves of impiety. |

21. while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the first, came to me in swift flight at the time of the evening sacrifice. 22. He came and he said to me, "O Daniel, I have now come out to give you wisdom and understanding. |
1 Macc 2:23. As he finished speaking, a Jew came forward in the sight of all to offer sacrifice on the altar in Modein as the royal edict required.

23. At the beginning of your supplications a word went forth, and I have come to tell it to you, for you are greatly beloved; therefore consider the word and understand the vision. |

24. "Seventy weeks of years are decreed concerning your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to put an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal both vision and prophet, |

25. Know therefore and understand that from the going forth of the word to restore and build Jerusalem to the coming of an anointed one, a prince, there shall be seven weeks. Then for sixty-two weeks it shall be built again with squares and moat, but in a troubled time. |
|
and to anoint a most holy place. |
1 Macc 4:42. Next, he selected priests who were blameless and zealous for the Torah 43. to purify the sanctuary and remove the stones of the "Pollution" to some unclean place. ... 52. On the twenty-fifth of the ninth month, Chislev, in the year 148 they rose at dawn 53. and offered a lawful sacrifice on the new altar of burnt offering which they had made. |
2 Macc 1:17. Blessed in all things be Elohecha, who has delivered the sacrilegious over to death! 18. `As we shall be celebrating the purification of the Temple on the twenty-fifth of Chislev, we consider it proper to notify you, so that you too may celebrate it, as you do the feast of Shelters and the fire that appeared when Nehemiah, the builder of the Temple and the altar, offered sacrifice. |

26. And after the sixty-two weeks, an anointed one shall be cut off, and shall have nothing; and the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. Its end shall come with a flood, and to the end there shall be war; desolations are decreed. |

27. And he shall make a strong covenant with many for one week; and for half of the week he shall cause sacrifice and offering to cease;

1 Macc. 7:13. The first among the Israelites to ask them for peace terms were the Hasidaeans, 14. who reasoned thus, "This is a priest of Aaron's line who has come with the armed forces; he will not wrong us." 15. He did in fact discuss peace terms with them and gave them his oath, "We shall not attempt to injure you or your friends." 16. They believed him, but he arrested sixty of them and put them to death on one day, fulfilling the words of scripture: 17. They have scattered the bodies of your faithful, and shed their blood all round Jerusalem, leaving no one to bury them! 18. At this, fear and dread gripped the whole people. "There is no truth or virtue in them," they said, "they have broken their agreement and their sworn oath." |

27b. and upon the wing of abominations shall come one who makes desolate, until the decreed end is poured out on the desolator."

1 Macc 6:10. Then, summoning all his Friends, he (Antiocus IV) said to them, "Sleep evades my eyes, and my heart is cowed by anxiety. 11. I have been wondering how I could have come to such a pitch of distress, so great a flood as that which now engulfs me, I who was so generous and well-loved in my heyday.12. But now I recall how wrongly I acted in Jerusalem when I seized all the vessels of silver and gold there and ordered the extermination of the inhabitants of Judah for no reason at all. 13. This, I am convinced, is why these misfortunes have overtaken me, and why I am dying of melancholy in a foreign land." |
1 Macc 6:7. and that they had pulled down the abomination which he had erected on the altar in Jerusalem, had encircled the sanctuary with high walls as in the past, and had fortified Beth-Zur, one of his cities. |

13. The Prince of the kingdom of Persia has been resisting me for twenty-one days, but Michael, one of the Chief Princes, came to my assistance. I have left him confronting the kings of Persia |
and upon the wing of abominations shall come one who makes desolate, until the decreed end is poured out on the desolator."

2 Macc 1:21. Maccabaeus took note of these masses confronting him - he called on Yahweh who works miracles, that victory is granted by him to such as deserve it. 22. His prayer was worded thus: "You, Master, sent your angel in the days of Hezekiah king of Judaea, and he destroyed no less than one hundred and eighty-five thousand of Sennacherib's army; 23. now, once again, Sovereign of heaven, send a good angel before us to spread terror and dismay. 24. May these men be struck down by the might of your arm, since they have come with blasphemy on their lips to attack your holy people." |
