Acts 2:22-39

(Joel 2:28-32 ) Then afterward I will pour out my spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. {29} Even on the male and female slaves, in those days, I will pour out my spirit. {30} I will show portents in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and columns of smoke. {31} The sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the great and terrible day of Yahweh comes. {32} Then everyone who calls on the name of Yahweh shall be saved; for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be those who escape, as Yahweh has said, and among the survivors shall be those whom Yahweh calls.

(Acts 2:22-39 ) "You that are Israelites, listen to what I have to say: Yahshua of Nazareth, a man attested to you by Father Yahweh with deeds of power, wonders, and signs that Father Yahweh did through him among you, as you yourselves know-- {23} this man, handed over to you according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of Father Yahweh , you crucified and killed by the hands of those outside the law. {24} But Father Yahweh raised him up, having freed him from death, because it was impossible for him to be held in its power.

{29} "Fellow Israelites, I may say to you confidently of our ancestor David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. {30} Since he was a prophet, he knew that Father Yahweh had sworn with an oath to him that he would put one of his descendants on his throne. {31} Foreseeing this, David spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, saying, 'He was not abandoned to Sheol , nor did his flesh experience corruption.' {32} This Yahshua Father Yahweh raised up, and of that all of us are witnesses.

{33} Being therefore exalted at the right hand of Father Yahweh , and having received from the Father the promise of the Devoted Spirit, he has poured out this that you both see and hear. {34} For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says, 'Yahweh said to my Master, "Sit at my right hand, {35} until I make your enemies your footstool."' {36} Therefore let the entire house of Israel know with certainty that Father Yahweh has made him both Lord and Messiah, this Yahshua whom you crucified."

{37} Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and to the other apostles, "Brothers, what should we do?" {38} Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Yahshua Messiah so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive the gift of the Devoted Spirit. {39} For the promise is for you, for your children, and for all who are far away, everyone whom Yahweh our Father Yahweh calls to him."

What he is saying is that:

Revival Springs from the earnest desire to serve the Living instead of the Dead.

Who were the Jews going to follow?  The King dead 1,000 years - or The King of Kings alive forever?

From Pentecost Scriptures and our experience with Revival we can identify several characteristics of how we might achieve new life in Messiah. (We remember that Revival is a sovereign act of Father 's will.)

Revival: Conditions of It's Coming

1. Prayer

  • Wesleyan Revival 1750 - daily devotion & prayer
  • Pentecostal 1900 - all night prayer
  • Charismatic 1967 - all night prayer
  • Pensacola 1995 - 2 years of prayer
  • Correct attitude: "I will not let you go until you bless me."

2. Return to Wesleyan Roots of Practical Theology

Study John Wesley's life - at 80 he complained because he could only write 15 hours a day.

3. Love for It's Pastors

  • Love him whether you like him or not
  • Get on board with what Father Yahweh is showing him

4. Burden for the Lost

  • People we love are going that may be lost
  • If we love them, why don't we have a burden for them?
  • What of those we don't love?

5. Repentance / Openness to Change

  • When we repent of our lifestyle, we are expected to change
  • Not "What do I want here?" but "What does Father Yahweh want here?"
  • Does Father want revival? Then your ideas must crumble.
  • Does Father want people coming in? Then your ideas must crumble.
  • Does Father want to do a new thing? Then the old must crumble.
  • Revival then depends on true repentance that leads to an attitude of openness and a desire to change for the better.

6. Expectation is a spiritual reality that comes once the assembly people become, by and large, repentant and open to change. The folks praying in the upper room expected to be Baptized in the Devoted Spirit, and their expectation was satisfied in short order.

Revival: It's Initiation

7. Something Unusual Happens That Opens Eyes.

  • At Pentecost, people spoke in tongues; there were audible and visual signs and wonders. There was empowerment. That brought revival.
  • The Pensacola Revival began on Father's day 1995. The assembly was prayed up and expecting. It wasn't the evangelist that brought the revival. It all began when a young lady came forward and gave a testimony of coming to Yahweh .
  • Robb - Nobody knows where the UM Church is. Why? Because there's never anything happening there.

8. "Meltdown" - emotional breakdown - wailing & crying, "intoxication," the dissolving of "unhealthy inhibitions," shaking, spiritual healing, then enthusiasm.

Revival: It's Characteristics

9. Signs and Wonders

  •  New Music & Worship Styles
  •  'Gifts' of the Spirit
  •  Miracles and Portents (Joel 2:28)
  •  Unusual Answers to Prayer - Peter's release

10. Boldness to Witness

  • It means telling others what Yahshua has done in your life
  • Testimony time at the great revivals
  • Such doesn't come through training, but enthusiasm

11. Repentance / Obedience

  • Others respond to our stories, through Devoted Conviction
  • This keeps the "fires burning"

12. Every Member Commitment to Unity, Holiness & Service

  • Unity in Father Yahweh with one another -- one-accord-ness

13. Courageous Evangelism

  • There are ministry teams formed
  • The work of evangelism is planned and the plan is worked

14. Persecution and Resistance

  • There has never been such persecution of Messiah ians as now
  • Hundreds of thousands dying for our faith yearly
  • At home: resistance to the move of Father Yahweh is projected on others

Revival: It's Outcomes

15. Spiritual Reformation or Metanoia that Affects Community

 The charismatic movement began in 1967. Now there are 30,000,000 in independent charismatic assembly es, not to mention the charismatics still enduring within the denominational assembly

16. Moral Reformation that Affects Community

  • Wesleyan Revival saved George III of England civil war
  • Pensacola crime rate fallen significantly since 1995. Why? 100,000 people converted! We don't need new crime laws; we just need revival.
