Jesus said
in Acts chapter 1: "Wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have
heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will
be baptized with the Holy Spirit. But you will receive power when the Holy
Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all
Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."
PRAYER OF INVOCATION
O Holy Spirit, by whose breath life rises
vibrant out of death:
Come to create, renew, inspire;
Come kindle in our
hearts your fire.
You are the seeker's sure resource,
of burning love and
living source,
Protector in the midst of strife,
Thou giver and the
Lord of Life.
In you God's energy is shown, to us your varied
gifts made known.
Yours is the tongue and yours the ear.
Teach us to speak,
teach us to hear.
Flood our dull senses with your light;
in mutual love our
hearts unite.
Your power the whole creation fills;
confirm our weak,
uncertain wills.
PRAYER OF
PREPARATION
Father in
Heaven, giver of gifts, prepare my heart for immersion in your Spirit. Through
Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
PRAYER OF
ACCESS
Breathe on
us, Holy Spirit. Pour out your shining glory. Baptize us with power. Manifest
your presence with fire. We have been a scattered people. Gather us into your
one-ness. Send a mighty wind and bursts of flame. Let us hear and see and feel.
And let us speak with new tongues, the languages of our heavenly home.
PRAYER FOR THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT
Heavenly Father, I want to experience all that
You have in store for me in Christ Jesus. I am sorry for my pride that may have
kept me from experiencing any part of the life in the Spirit. I do repent of this pride and I ask You to
reveal Your life and love to me. I want You to take over my guidance and be my
Master. I don't know all that this means now, but I trust You to teach me.
Father, I ask You to baptize me in Your Holy Spirit. I want all You have
suffered to give me. O, Lord Jesus, I empty myself of all that I thought I
knew if it stands in Your way of baptizing me in your Spirit. Pour out your power upon me so that I might
live a life worthy of Your name. I thank You Father; I do now receive all of
Jesus; I thank You Jesus, I do now receive all of Your Holy Spirit; I thank you
Holy Spirit that You have made all this possible by Your faithful love. I
thankfully pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
TO RECEIVE THE INFILLING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
From Prayers That Avail Much
My Heavenly Father, I am your child and I
believe in my heart that Jesus has been raised from the dead and I have
confessed Him as my Lord. Jesus said,
“How much more shall your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those that
ask Him.” I ask You now in the name of
Jesus to fill me with the Holy Spirit.
I step into the fullness and power that I desire in the name of
Jesus. I confess that I am a
Spirit-filled Christian. As I yield my
vocal organs, I expect to speak in tongues for the Spirit gives me utterance in
the name of Jesus. Praise the Lord!
COME, HOLY SPIRIT!
Come, Holy Spirit, we need thee! Come, sweet Spirit, we pray!
Come in your fullness and power!
Come
in your own sovereign way!
