Proudly Presents Strange Truths Monday March 5, 2001
In this story, President Bush (then President-Elect) was at a banquet when
he was approached to speak to a woman's 16-year-old son about Jesus. Bush
then took the time to talk to the young man about salvation. I must admit,
it's a neat and inspiring story, but unfortunately it is not true.
Although President Bush is an open and staunch Christian, this particular
incident did not occur. Bush's own 1999
autobiography, "A Charge to Keep," states "America is a
great country because of our religious freedoms. It is
important for any leader to respect the faith of others."
Bush was also quoted on the question of religion and politics as saying:
"My faith gives me focus and perspective. It teaches humility. But I
also recognize that
faith can be misinterpreted in the political process. Faith is an
important part of my life. I believe it is important to live my faith, not
flaunt it."
I highly agree!
